Quetzalcoatl is a deity in Meso-American culture and literature whose name comes from the Nahuatl language: quetzalli, meaning “tail feather of the quetzal bird [Pharomachrus mocinno],” and coatl, meaning “snake”. It is one of the major deities of the ancient Mexican pantheon, symbolizing change and transformation.
